Uganda COVID-19 cases rise to 139


Health Workers screen Cargo truck drivers for COVID-19 at Elegu Border Point

Kampala, Uganda (RTN) -The number of COVID-19 patients in Uganda has risen to 136 after  13 more truck drivers  tested positive. According to the Ministry of Health. 

Among those who tested positive for COVID-19, 7  are Ugandans,  5 Kenyans and 1 Eritrean entered the country from Tanzania via Mutukula,  from South Sudan via the Elegu border and from Kenya via Malaba.

Uganda Virus Research Institute took samples of 1,478 truck drivers and is where four case have been confirmed.

Ugandans have always contested truck drivers  fearing  that the drivers will lead to spread of the disease.

However,East African presidents on on Tuesday agreed on a number of conditions concerning handling the COVID-19 outbreak in the community.

Among the issues agreed upon was the development of a harmonized system for certification and sharing of COVID-19 test results.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, Uganda has so far confirmed 126 case , 55 recoveries with no death reported.
