Nangayi Guyson's Compaign Poster |
RTN Kampala,Uganda – In a move signaling a determined return to the political arena, Nangayi Guyson, a prominent member of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) led by former UPDF Army commander Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has announced his candidacy for the Bungokho Central Parliamentary seat in Mbale district in the upcoming 2026-2031 general elections.
Guyson, who previously contested for the same position in the 2021-2026 general elections, is vowing a stronger campaign and a renewed focus on the needs of the Bungokho Central community.
The 2021 race saw Guyson competing against a field of candidates including Wanda Richard (National Resistance Movement - NRM), Wanamama Anthony Eddy (Forum for Democratic Change - FDC), Mukhwana Eric Stephen (Independent), and Mauso Andrew (Independent).
Ultimately, NRM’s Wanda Richard won the seat. However, Guyson contested the outcome of the election, alleging that Richard's victory was secured through voter buying and rigging, with the support of the NRM.
"I am the only genuine candidate who garnered votes without using money to lure voters," Guyson asserted following the election results.
Now, with a renewed sense of purpose and a strengthened platform, Guyson is preparing to mount a formidable challenge in the upcoming polls.
He is promising a comprehensive manifesto centered on key areas crucial to the development of Bungokho Central.
"I'm coming back with a very strong manifesto for Bungokho Central county, and the people should expect good roads, revived agriculture, good healthcare, and a boost in their economic activities," Guyson declared.
A Past Forged in Resilience
Nangayi Guyson's decision to re-enter the political fray is rooted in a deeply personal history of resilience and determination. His journey to this point has been shaped by adversity, and these experiences have fueled his unwavering commitment to public service.
Born into a family of eight children to the late Wanja Edward, a native of Bufooto in Busano sub-county, Mbale District, Guyson's early life was marked by the turbulent political climate of Uganda's past.
His father, Wanja Edward, served as a sub-county chief and was a staunch supporter of former President Apollo Milton Obote’s regime. It is claimed that his late father had ties to a rebel group called Force Obote Back (FBO), which was active during a time of significant political turmoil in 1980s.
The rise of the current government in 1986 ushered in a period of retribution against those perceived as opposition.
The Wanja family became a target, suffering a brutal attack on their home nestled in the mountainous region of Mt. Wanale.
The devastating incident resulted in significant loss and displacement for the entire family, leaving an indelible mark on young Guyson.
In the wake of the attack, Wanja Edward was forced to flee to neighboring Kenya, seeking refuge from the political violence.
However, tragedy struck again in 1996 when he was murdered by unknown assailants from Uganda.
This profound loss, coupled with the earlier trauma, profoundly shaped Guyson's worldview and solidified his unwavering commitment to justice and effective governance in Uganda.
These deeply personal experiences have become the driving force behind his political aspirations, fueling his determination to advocate for the marginalized, promote accountability, and champion the welfare of his community.
Guyson's supporters say that his background gives him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by ordinary Ugandans, and makes him the ideal candidate to represent their interests in parliament.
