Kampala, Uganda (RTN)- According to family and friends, Rtd. Maj. Gen Kasirye Ggwanga died this morning after several weeks of being in a very critical condition. He died while being admitted at Nakasero Hospital where he has been for the last couple of weeks.
He was born on 1 January 1952 in Mubende district. He studied at Kibuli Secondary School and would later join the Uganda Army in 1972. He would go on to serve in different capacities in the army for 47years until 2018 when he retired at the rank of Major General.
Ggangwa joined the Uganda Army in 1972, In 1985, he left UFA and joined Pres.Museveni's NRA, which captured power in January 1986. During the drive to capture Kampala, Kasirye Ggwanga commanded a 120mm artillery unit.
Between 1986 and 2005, he served in several roles including as the LC5 chairman for Mubende District and as the director of stores in the UPDF.
He was a presidential advisor on Buganda Kingdom affairs and very vocal and hands on when it came to fighting for the Environment.
Kasirye Ggwanga slipped into a comma on 27 May and was taken Mbuya Hospital but was later transferred to Nakesero Hospital on Tuesday last week. Unfortunately, a week later, today he would go on to die.
