SONA: Ugandan President Museveni Addresses Nation Today.

By  Wanambwa M. Rogers

Kampala, Uganda (RTN)- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to give his annual National Address today amidst a lot of angst by the Coronavirus pandemic. Among other things, here are some of the issues he is expected to talk about:

Economy

Dr Fred Muhumuza, an Economist also job losses. “He needs to fix this because there are also other consumption taxes that are related to working. People work and consume goods produced by factories where excise duty tax is levied. So generally, people must work to get money and pay taxes which can support the economy,” he said on a different platform.

Governance

On governance, Lydia said that the governance of Uganda is on course and the president is expected to acknowledge this and also assure the nation about the looming elections come next year.

Health

Another major issue is health. Dr Mukuzi Muhereza, the Uganda Medical Association general secretary, said the President must address the issues of supplies to the health facilities and salaries.

Social Welfare

According to Yusuf Serunkuma, a Researcher at Makerere University, there are quite a number of things expected from this address including the social welfare of the nationals. This, he talked about during a discussion on NBS TV's Morning Breeze.

Education

Considering the fact that the education sector is still closed, the president is expected to talk about what is going to be done about it as the country resumes "normal business."

Security

Serunkuma hinted on the fact that there's still no report on the many killings of the women in Entebbe and Mukono, and no report on the killings of Moslems. He went on to add that Ugandans also expect assurance, especially since the country is opening up that the country, about the porous borders. This concerns also the Coronavirus pandemic.

Environment

Given the rising levels of water in water bodies around the country and the subsequent displacement of people, the president is expected to talk about that and more as Mr Frank Muramuzi, the executive director of National Association of Professional Environmentalists says, "The President must clearly state how he is going to handle the issue of the floods and the wetland degradation across the country."

Transport

Lydia Wanyoto, the Chairperson NRM Woman League, who was also part of the Morning Breeze discussion this morning, said the president is expected to talk about transport especially as the country's public transportation opens up today.
