Musician Mark Bugembe aka Buchaman arrested

By Wanambwa M. Rogers

Kampala,Uganda (RTN)- Musician Mark Bugembe aka Buchaman who is a self-claimed presidential advisor on ghetto matters was arrested by police yesterday for allegedly disrupting a meeting organized by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in Makindye, a Kampala suburb.

According to the Kampala police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Buchaman was arrested by Katwe police because of disrupting a NEMA meeting that was taking place yesterdsy afternoon with a group of youths he had recruited.

The meeting that was happ

ening between NEMA and police was being held to access the damage of rising Lake Victoria water levels in Makindye. Later, a meeting between the NEMA officials and the persons affected by the increasing water was held but this was disrupted by Buchaman claiming such a meeting could not happen in his area without his presence as the presidential advisor.

"After their assessment, they gathered the community and they were addressing them. Bugembe gathered other unruly youth and they stormed the meeting with intention of disrupting it that he is a presidential advisor and he doesn't want the meeting to take place,” Onyango said.

Buchaman was appointed by president Yoweri Museveni in October 2019 to be his advisor on ghetto matters. This happened during a meeting that was held in Kibuye, Makindye West which is a constituency of Kampala.

It is at the same meeting that Katherine Kusasira, another musician was also appointed as the president's advisor on Kampala.

Ironically, State House comptroller, Lucy Nakyobe, a few months back said she was not aware of either Buchaman or Kusasira as being part of S

tate House employees. Apparently, neither was vetted nor approved by the public service commission.

Buchaman and his 'bodyguard' were arrested together and are being currently detained at Katwe police station.
