Opinion: Bobi Wine and People Power Movement can only survive crumbling when they form a strong alliance with FDC

Kyadondo East constituency Mp Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine at the home of former presidential Aspirant Dr. Kizza Besiegye of the FDC during their secret meeting this month

By Nangayi Guyson

Kampala, Uganda (RTN) - Many pro-Bobi wine supporters on social media have always rushed to curse me when I post something they think is criticizing  Kyadondo East constituency Mp Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine. Some say, I do that because I’m a diehard supporter of Dr. Kizza Besiegye and the FDC and others say, I just hate Bobi wine as a person.

But to clear the air on this, I can say, I have never hated Bobi Wine as person, in fact I was at the fore front of those supporting him when he declared his candidature for the Kyadondo East constituency parliamentary seat despite me not being a voter there.

My problem with his (Bobi Wine) rhetoric came in when he started People Power Movement without proper strategic plan on how to handle political matters in the country that’s being ruled by Military in disguise of a civil government.

Because of excitement after winning the parliamentary seat and having a large following of very rude and rowdy youths swearing allegiance to him (Bobi Wine), he decided to surround himself with political armatures and failed to seek advice from people like Dr. Kizza Besigye, Norbert Moa, Ibrahim Nganda, Muhammad Nsereko, Nandala Mafabi, Ken Lukyamuzi among others who have been in the political game of Uganda for decades.

I wanted to see a Bobi wine, coming to limelight with new ideas on how he plans to change our country to better than what President Museveni has done for the last 3 decades. But instead I saw a Bobi Wine coming in with just mere activism to try to compete with mafias who have all the mechanism to destroy whoever comes their way. I wanted to hear Bobi Wine say, since Museveni has built one million primary schools, I plan to build 2 million primary schools with this and that strategy. I wanted to hear Bobi wine say I’m negotiating with all opposition parties in Uganda to form an alliance and we front one candidate against Museveni just like what Kenyan opposition did in 2017 general elections.

But I didn’t hear anything like that .What I saw was just a man doing everything and making wrong decisions for selfish interests and bringing in hungry non-politicians like full figure, his brothers (Mikie Wine Eddy Yawe), Eddy Mutwe, Ssegirinya and blogger Ashraf Kato who recently defected to NRM.

Due to these wrong decisions, People Power Movement has started crumbling and is losing trust among the Ugandan majority because its pillars were put on a weak foundation.

What Bobi wine and his people Power Movement need to do

Accepting the fact in the Ugandan politics, Bobi wine is a crawling baby who needs to hold himself on strong pillars, he needs to go back and seek advice from people who knows how the political game is being played in Uganda.

He needs to call in the support of people like Winne Kizza, Norbert Moa, Ibrahim Nganda, Muhammad Nsereko and others who used to be behind him when entered parliament.

Bobi Wine should know that know that being a politician in Uganda is suicidal and accept to work with all political parties to form an alliance and I recommend FDC for that case because it has a very strong foundation with grassroots support.

What’s wrong, if Bobi Wine with all the support he still has, joins Dr. Kizza Besigye to do a duo campaign in 2021 general elections with an agreement that if one wins, another one automatically becomes the deputy or Vice President?

Bobi Wine should know that Ugandan politics has been commercialized and personalized and almost all people joining it are looking for survival. That’s the reason why many people around him are ditching his People Power Movement.

I know defecting happens in every political party but that usually happens when some people have stayed long in that party and they don’t see future in it. For People Power which is still a young movement, it is too early for us to see such huge defections at this time.

Taking an example of me swearing allegiance to FDC, I did because of the good strategic plans Besigye and his team have. The message he brought to us in the slopes of Mt. Elgon when I was just a young man not even eligible to vote forced me to love FDC. Much as FDC’s victory has been stolen on several occasions, I still have hope and love for it because of the good message they have for us. I don’t care even if Dr. Kizza Besigye, Ibrahim Nganda, Nandala Mafabi and others don’t know me or recognize my efforts. What I only love, is them giving us political hope.

I would love so much to see Bobi Wine reorganizing people Power Movement, surrounding himself ahead of 2021 general elections with patriotic people who really want to see genuine change in Uganda.  If he fails to do that, I predict after 2021 general elections, when he has lost it to President Museveni or Dr. Kizza Besigye, he will be regarded as a political failure with no political future since People Power Movement is not a political but a pressure group and as you may all know pressure groups die easily.

It’s better he joins hands with Dr. Kizza Besigye and the FDC to give us a tremendous elections campaign which will give hope to Ugandans when they see two strong opposition men on the same pulpit asking for votes from lovers of change.
