KAMPALA, UGANDA (RTN),
Uganda has registered 14 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) deaths in Gulu, Masaka and Kampala - the country's highest single-day tally according to results released by the ministry of Health (MOH) late Friday evening. The results are from samples tested on Thursday.

This brings the total number of Ugandans who have so far succumbed to the viral respiratory disease to 131. Also, a further 284 people tested positive, bringing the total cumulative number of confirmed positives in the country to 13,852.

This week, more than 1,000 cases have been registered in the country, with 434 cases reported on Sunday, followed by 209 other new cases of on Monday. From Tuesday to Thursday, the country recorded 248, 252 and 217 cases respectively.

Even as the new cases reported daily have increased, Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said that this may not be the true picture in the community since some districts have not been filing coronavirus updates due to lack of funds for surveillance.

COVID-19 is being reported in only 117 out of 134 districts across the country. Globally, the confirmed cases are nearing 50 million with 1.2 million deaths while 35 million have recovered. The USA, France, India and Italy lead in the number of deaths with Morocco, South Africa and Kenya registering the highest number of fatalies on the African continent.
