Kampala,Uganda (RTN)-As the motto says “education is the key to success” being ratified by very many schools across Uganda, the future of a student is in a state of melancholy.
Earlier on the Ugandan government through H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in his speech while addressing the Nation put a stop on all education institutions and this commenced on Friday, March 20th 2020. This was meant to last for a period of 30days.
Upon hearing this information, many students applauded, jiggled and expressed gratitude towards H.E the president of Uganda for such a nice decree as they continued: “the burden of reading books, attending morning classes” all being eased for them.
Many campus students across the country resorted to partying as the so-called hectic “group discussions” “assignments and course works” were no longer bulletins according to their perceptions.
For the very first days, the situation was compulsive as some learners’ wishes had come true: “having time with no worry about school!!” however, as the saying goes “too much of anything is always bad” the leisure that students had wished for has turned into a bed of nails.
This is as result of students, not being certain when school shall resume as the outbreak of the virus is continuously striking hard within the country and no one knows when it is going to end. This has caused a state of quagmire among students worrying whether they will ever achieve their longed-for dreams of attaining white-collar jobs.
Many students were accustomed to being motivated through punishments especially in lower institutions of learning, having said that, it is no longer the case, these are drowning in moods of reluctance and worst of all forgetting what they had learnt due to the prolonged stay without revision.
On Monday 20th April 2020, the Minister for Education Janet Museveni while addressing the nation, she gave hope to learners that if all goes well, school was likely to resume on 27th April 2020 for pre-primary, primary and secondary school. Universities and other tertiary institutions were to re-open on 2nd may, 2020.
However as people plan, God is the master of all planners, the number of patients contracting corona virus increased hence students continuing with the long wait.
This has left many heavy-hearted as they don’t know where to put priority at the moment, with many frozen with lots of thoughts, either to abandon books or continue with their revision. However those in candidate classes such as “primary seven, senior four and six plus finalists in universities” are being given some relief as they hope to resume school on 4th June 2020 leaving out the rest of the learners aimless.
