Kampala, Uganda (RTN)- On Saturday, the Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng updated the country on the ministry's efforts to fight the Coronavirus pandemic and the presence of the same.
In her submission, she revealed that different COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in 33 districts in the country.
These are Amuru, Adjumani, Buikwe, Yumbe, Arua, Koboko, Moyo, Gulu, Kitgum, Lira, Soroti, Kumi, Tororo, Busia, Mayuge, Buvuma, Kayunga, Mukono, Kampala, Jinja, Nakaseke, Masindi, Bulisa, Kiryandongo, Kyankwanzi, Gomba, Masaka, Rakai, Mbarara, Isingiro, Ntungamo, Kyotera and Wakiso.
“We are now in the process of expanding bed capacities at the National and regional referral hospitals using mobile hospitals in open spaces. 400 beds have been dedicated to COVID-19 treatment at Mulago National Referral hospital. Once the renovation works are complete the bed capacity will be expanded to its full capacity of 900 beds,” Dr Aceng added.
She made that statement as she intimated that the ministry had deliberately excluded the use of general hospitals and health centre IVs for treatment of COVID-19 cases.
On a happier note, by the end of the weekend, 240 Ugandans that had contracted the COVID-19 virus had been discharged from the hospitals that they had been admitted to.
These include all 20 patients who were at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. The recovered patients are part of the 21 truck drivers who tested positive for the virus at Elegu Border and were admitted at the Hospital for treatment in May.
Dr Stephen Obbo, the Hospital Director explained that all the patients had mild COVID-19 and he added that only one patient was over 60 years while three were hypertensive.
