Kampala, Uganda (RTN) -MTN Uganda has joined efforts with the people of Uganda in a fight against the deadly coronavirus and in doing so , MTN has scrapped charges on mobile money services for 30 days. The company’s chief executive officer, Wim Vanhelleputte announced on Monday.
The service applies to only MTN-to-MTN transactions. In addition to that, MTN Uganda is also giving 1GB data at sh2,000 every day from 9am-5pm to enable Ugandans working at home access internet.
The company is also supporting Ministry of Health sensitization programs by availing sh500m in cash and free channel space.
Uganda Red Cross Secretary General, Robert Kwesiga told RTN that MTN Uganda has also contributed Shs 297m towards Uganda Red Cross Society’s COVID-19 Response Plan.
The funds were committed to support community surveillance including prevention and control, in high-risk areas.
Red Cross unveiled COVID-19 Response Plan of Action during a recent coordination meeting and will work closely with the Ministry of Health and other government/ Public authorities to fight against COVID-19.
